Watercress

Commonly seen as a garnish Watercress is a surprisingly versatile salad leaf. With its delicate peppery taste finding uses in pastas, salads, sandwiches and soups for years, it can also be used in marinades, sauces and even smoothies. Watercress is a true super food. Rich in vitamins C and E and containing large amounts of calcium and iron not only does watercress taste great but it is good for you. Initially cultivated in Britain in Kent watercress has become something ubiquitously British and is the subject of an annual festival in Hampshire. The centrepiece of the festival being a watercress eating contest where competitors try to best the current world record for eating two bags of watercress which stands at 46.69 seconds.
